Peace Education

Religions for Peace Japan provides opportunities for learning and practice that deepen the understanding of peace from a religious perspective, aiming to nurture individuals who can act with a global vision. Our goal is to empower each person to become a peacemaker, working in collaboration with diverse organizations.

In partnership with peace education and peacebuilding experts in Japan and abroad, we organize workshops and seminars that explore approaches to conflict transformation and dialogue grounded in the dignity of life. Through fieldwork, participants engage in practical explorations of reconciliation.

We collaborate with international institutions such as the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute (MPI) and the Northeast Asia Regional Peacebuilding Institute (NARPI), strengthening interregional networks of peace education.

Among our initiatives are study sessions on human rights issues—including the Dowa (Buraku discrimination) issue in Japan and the situation of the Yazidi people—as well as our flagship program, the Facilitator Training Seminar for Peace and Reconciliation. This program equips participants with skills in listening, dialogue, and reconciliation processes. To date, about 70 participants—including religious leaders, NGO workers, educators, students, and community leaders—have joined the seminar, with approximately 30 graduates now serving as facilitators. Follow-up trainings are also offered, enabling alumni to continually update their skills to meet the needs of today’s society. In 2024, the third round of the seminar was launched.
