WCRP Japan Issues Statement on the NPT Review Conference / Participation in NGO Session on May 1
The Japan Committee of World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP / Religions for Peace, RfP) has issued a statement concerning the Eleventh Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from April 27 to May 22, 2026.
The Committee has consistently engaged in international efforts toward a world free from reliance on nuclear weapons. It participated in the Tenth NPT Review Conference in 2022, as well as the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) held in March 2025. Throughout these engagements, WCRP Japan has emphasized that nuclear weapons are fundamentally incompatible with human dignity and has continued to advocate for the recognition of their inhumane nature.
At the NGO Session of the NPT Review Conference on May 1, Rev. Masamichi Kamiya, Senior Advisor of ACRP and a member of the WCRP Japan Task Force to Stop Nuclear Dependence, will represent the global network of WCRP / RfP as a speaker.
The session will be livestreamed via United Nations Television (UNTV), operated by the United Nations Department of Global Communications.
