Message of Solidarity Regarding the Earthquake Off the Coast of the Southern Philippines
We are deeply saddened by the news of the major earthquake (estimated magnitude 8.2) that struck off the coast of the southern Philippines on June 8 at around 7:38 a.m. local time. We are heartbroken to hear about the collapse of coastal homes, the casualties, the missing people, and the tsunamis affecting neighboring countries. We can only imagine the immense fear and anxiety of everyone in the area, having endured 138 aftershocks by 11:00 a.m. on the same day.
On behalf of the Religions for Peace Japan, I offer my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and to their grieving families.
We pray for the swift rescue of all those who are still missing. We also send our heartfelt thoughts to the injured and pray for their full and speedy recovery. Furthermore, we pray for the safety and protection of all the rescue workers and search teams dedicated to helping others.
Religions for Peace Japan has built a deep and lasting friendship with the people of Mindanao, Philippines. In the face of this disaster, we are determined to strengthen our bonds and overcome this difficult time together.
In solidarity with our global religious network, we express our heartfelt prayers and commitment to action, hoping that peace and comfort will be restored to the affected areas as soon as possible.
